Optimal Digestion- When stress is ON, digestion is OFF
Optimal Digestion - an essential role in your overall vitality.
What you’re eating means little to nothing if you can’t digest and absorb the nutrients.
Digestion- A North to South Process.
.
Picture this-
Where does digestion start? And where does it end?
.There are 3 big organs that are involved in the digestion process; stomach, pancreas and your gallbladder- when these systems are out of balance, the function of digestion further south will also be out of balance.
Let’s talk about your stomach and pancreas – these 2 organs are considered part of your UPPER GI system. This is usually the primary area of dysfunction for most clients. Often the root cause of dysfunction further south in your digestive system – leading to dysbiosis, candida, SIBO, heartburn, leaky gut.
.
look at this digestive process- Makes sense right? When there is dysfunction at the beginning of your digestion AND midway through the digestive process. It only makes sense that the end product wouldn't look right, correct?
.
Dysfunction happening –
Lack of HCL – Hydrochloric Acid- The stomach is ALL about stomach acid, helping you digest the food you consume!!
Lack of Pancreatic Enzymes - Your pancreas adds enzymes to digest protein, fats and carbs.
.
Now that your body already has the lack of HCL & Enzymes – often eating mindfully alone can’t help the what has caused issues further down- however addressing the lack of these very important pieces is essential in my experience in addressing optimal gut health.
.
Here are a few examples of symptoms you might experience with Upper GI Dysfunction:
Heartburn
Belching/gas one hour after eating
Stomach Upset when you take vitamins
Sleepy after meals
Undigested food in your stools
.
The thing is, stressed out folks can't make very good use of even the BEST and healthy foods- if you're not digesting them.
.
Learn to reLEARN to sit DOWN- eat slowly and mindful and chew your food.
.
This will help increase your ability to rest and digest.
Increase your enjoyment with your food. Heck you might even notice some foods you really just don't enjoy- that is okay.
Level up your ability to be in tune with your bod. You'll recognize when you're full, the taste of your food.
.
Aim for 20-30 full chews of each bite.
.
Put your fork/spoon down between bites.
.
Happy chewing.
