Hello Spring! Living & Eating in Season!
Tell me your favorite Seasons, without actually telling me your favorite season!
Me- PRODUCEEEE! LOL. Hello there April, kicking off this Spring Season feeling fresh and full of sunshine- and “In” Season Produce- that has me a bit giddy that we are venturing towards Summer!!
Living in the PNW, We are so graciously gifted to live with four seasons, of which I couldn’t even be more grateful for, than I am! This year- I am really trying to live more passionately within the season, as well as eating in Season.
The difference? See below.
“Every main season in a four-season climate contains many micro-seasons of varying length. They arise and die continuously throughout the calendar year, sometimes overlapping, often coinciding, in some years never occurring at all. “
For example: Late March and early April bring seed-starting season, dandelion season, and mud season, possibly in Washington, yet Idaho is very much lacking the “mud” season.!! Well, welcome spring!
This brings me to, Seasonal Eating! Meaning you are eating fresh produce at a time of year when it's “naturally” ready for harvest. Eating produce that has been harvested at it’s peak season, will yield the most nutrients and taste the best!
Spring! What are we eating!!?
How to LIVE in season this Spring??
By living seasonally, I mean fully inhabiting your natural environment and letting your environment inhabit you. :) By living with the seasons we can live a much more balanced, free flowing and fulfilling life.
When you are more aligned to the current season and energies of the earth we get in sync with the natural rhythm of life. And so, we connect not only to the earth, but also to ourselves.
Get outside more than you usually do.
Encourage yourself to get outside- in all types of weather :)
Buy or borrow wild and cultivated plant guides. Look at the weeds that grow from cracks in the asphalt, along the roadsides, or along the woodland path.
Consider getting to know more about the birds, insects as well that are out and about.
Enjoy! And get out there and enjoy living and eating in season my loves!
