Blackberry & Pear Chia Jam
I have been obsessed with anything I make at home these days, from jam to jerky and growing my own herbs.
I love homemade jam, growing up I would help my mom pick raspberries from the garden and we would make and can jam. You know, that good kind that is smothered in processed cane sugar and tastes like heaven! Don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t turn down a jar of it if I could get my hands on it today however, I have tried to make a solid effort to recreate that sensation of jam without all the added sugar. And, I am getting there.
This jam is so fun! These berries I picked up were a tad tart, making me reach for something to add a touch of sweetness. Hey, there molasses. I was excited that the molasses added such a fun rich flavor. Molasses has a low glycemic load making it a better choice compared to your regular cane sugar. Also, rich in vitamin B6, manganese, magnesium, potassium, iron and selenium.
I hope you enjoy it. If you make this, please comment and let me know.
Deets://
6 oz Organic Blackberries
1/2 Organic Pear Chopped
1 Tbsp Chia Seeds
1 Tbsp Black-strap Molasses
Process://
Add the blackberries and chopped pears to a saucepan, heat on low for approx 10 minutes. The fruit will start to break down, smash with a fork. *Note: I did not peel the pear, it is not necessary however the skin does not break down well so you might want to. Once the fruit is broken down to a “sauce” add the molasses, stir and add chia seeds. Simmer for 3-5 minutes.
That’s it!
This will keep in the fridge for up to 5 days.
Enjoy!
